About SERB :
One of the most notable developments in the S&T sector in the XI Plan has been the setting up of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) Promoting basic research in Science and Engineering and to provide financial assistance to persons engaged in such research, academic institutions, research and development laboratories, industrial concerns and other agencies for such research and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto are the primary and distinctive mandate of the Board. SERB aims to build up best management systems which would match the best global practices in the area of promotion and funding of basic research.About ITS :
ITS scheme is designed to provide financial assistance for presenting a research paper or chairing a session or delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (conference/seminar/symposium/workshop etc.). In addition, support is also provided to young scientists (age limit 35 years as on date of conference) for attending training programmes and short-term schools/workshops/courses. Economy class air-fare by shortest route, airport-tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. Registration Fee is provided to young scientist in addition to the above support.Importance of SERB- ITS ( International Travel Scheme )
International Travel Grants provide an excellent opportunity for young people and researcher to experience life in the any direction of world. Apart from financial support, International Travel Grant students will receive additional information during a number of information sessions on how to prepare for the trip, International Travel Grants are provided for bachelor’s, master’s and advanced master’s students. The scheme provides core research support to active researchers to undertake research and development in frontier areas of Science and Engineering.Eligibility criteria :
(a) Applicant should be an active researcher engaged in R&D work in academic institutions or research laboratories.(b) The applicant should have an invitation for presenting a paper. Similar invitation is required in the case of young scientists attending training programmes such as Short term courses, summer/winter schools, workshop etc.
(c) The applicant should not have availed financial assistance from this Scheme during the last three years.
(d) The scientific event should be of an international character. Invitation of personal nature such as for carrying out post-doctoral work, informal training programmes etc. will not be considered.
(e) The application should be forwarded through proper channel and must reach at least two months prior to the date of the event.
(f) SERB will only consider the applications received through online submission mode since 31st October 2015.
(g) CANVASSING IN ANY FORM WILL DISQUALIFY THE APPLICANT FROM SEEKING TRAVEL AND OTHER SUPPORT FROM THE BOARD.
Documents Required :
The following list of documents have to be scanned, converted to pdf (Maximum size - 500kb) and uploaded using the "Upload Files" section. It would be useful if you first prepare the following parts (soft copy in pdf) before starting the process for uploading.- Bio-data of the applicant
- Acceptance letter from the Organize
- Abstract(s) of the paper(s) to be presented
- Event Details
- Endorsement of Head of the Institution (as per format available on ITS,SERB website)
- Certificate by the Applicant (format available on ITS,SERB website) (Including Benefits of the Event)
- Date of Birth Certificate (Applicable for Young Scientist aged 35 years or below on the start date of event)
- Partial Support Expenses covering letter (Required only if you have commitment from any agency).
Guidelines to fill out online application :
a. Application contains 5 parts namely "Application Guidelines, Event Details, Applicant Details , Financial Details and Upload Files" .b. Applications will be accepted only between 60 and 90 days prior to the date of Start of the Event.
c. Event Details, Applicant Details and Financial Details " are to be filled online and scanned files are to be uploaded under "Upload Files" section.
d. For entering information about Event, please click on "Search Your Event" button. Search for the events happening in a country for the particular start date and end date. If your Event gets listed, SELECT it, otherwise click on the "ADD" button to add the Event details. Please click on "Save" button to save the "Event Details" for your application.
e. For entering information about your Institute, please click on " Search Your Institution" button. Search for your State & City. If your institute gets listed, SELECT it, otherwise, click on the "ADD" button to add your institute details.
h. After Uploading and Saving the documents online, you can view the contents by clicking on PREVIEW button displayed at the same page.
i. Please make sure that the information entered and the respective uploads are correct before clicking on the "SUBMIT" button. After clicking on "SUBMIT" button, you will not be able to change the contents of the application.
j. Please take a print of the saved data by clicking on "PRINT" button before submitting the data.
k. On Preview, you can use "BACK" button to make any changes in the data.
l. It will not be possible to make any changes in the submitted Applications.
m. Please note the Application Number that has been displayed on the Screen.
n. It may be useful to take a printout of these Instructions as a ready reference before you start.
o. The Board, in the event of selection, will initially issue a committment letter. The amount will be reimbursed to the researcher only after his/her return to India after participation in the event and submitting a report and other details in prescribed proforma within one month from the date of the event.
How to apply :
For successful online submission of the application the following points :Applicant(s) should first register into the online website Click here to register After log-in, kindly go to Menu --> Proposal Submission --> Form Submission --> Select scheme and start filling the form online.
The researchers are required to apply online through the portal between 60-90 days in advance prior to the start date of the event. The system will not accept early or late submission of applications. Application submitted through any other mode will not be considered.
