About JNCASR :

  1. Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is a multidisciplinary research institute situated in Jakkur, a locality north of Bangalore, India. It is relatively young yet well-known around the Globe.
  2. JNCASR mandate is to pursue and promote world-class research and training at the frontiers of Science and Engineering covering broad areas ranging from Materials to Genetics.
  3. It provides a vibrant academic ambience hosting more than 300 Researchers.
  4. The Centre is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and is a deemed university. 
  5. At JNCASR majority of students are pursuing Ph. D. degree, we also have students enrolled in for Integrated  Ph. D., M. S. / M. S. (Engg.) programmes. 
  6. The student population at JNCASR is drawn from across the length and breadth of the country; in addition, JNCASR frequently have foreign students visiting the Centre under various exchange programmes. 
  7. In order to be eligible for consideration in these interviews, students have to meet various academic criteria, as specified under the various degree programmes listed in the menu page. Admission in these programmes is fairly competitive.

  3. These fellowships are highly competitive and many of them have a no-resubmission policy. Therefore every application should be the highest quality possible. 
  4. This scheme is intended for those wishing to return to an area of molecular bioscience, Medical Science, Engineering within the remit area of the Science Society.
  5. This scheme aims to provide career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers but with a proven record of research.


Minimum eligibility to apply to the Ph.D Programme :

  1. Candidates with an M Sc., B E, B Tech, M E, M.Tech or MBBS are eligible to apply.  They should have at least 50% in their highest University examination, and should also have qualified in the GATE / JEST /GPAT or  UGC -/ CSIR - NET-JRF/ / ICMR - JRF / DBT-JRF/ INSPIRE-JRF. 
  2. The award certificate of such test should have the validity period for seeking admission to research programme as on the first working day of the beginning of the session/semester(1 January or 1 August) . 
  3. Generally ME/M.Tech students are required to qualify one of the exams mentioned above, however exceptional candidates without these exams may also be considered.


Scholarships stipend and travel grants:

  1. Selected PhD students receive scholarships of Rs. 25,000-28,000 per months plus HRA as per rules and regulations. 
  2. Students are automatically enrolled in a Group Insurance Scheme and a comprehensive medical scheme and have access to an on-campus doctor, as well as to medical facilities elsewhere. 
  3. One lac funding for travel to international/national conferences is also available. 
  4. Our students have attend conferences in countries such as Korea, Iran, France, Singapore, the United States of America, Japan, Sweden, and Italy, Israel etc.

 Online application is a Two-Step process.

You will be send a confirmation email for validation. On confirmation, go to Step 2.

Step 2 : is to fill up the application form.

Enter your email and password in login form.On validation you will be redirected to online application form.


Importance notice for prospective applicants

  1. Interviews for admitting students in respective Units/programmes will be held subject to the vacancies available. 
  2. Selection to the degree programmes of JNCASR are subject to excellent academic background score/percentile/rank obtained in national fellowship exams,in addition to the recommendations of the referees and performance in the interview. 
  3. Mere fulfilling the essential  qualifications / eligibility criteria will not entitle an applicant to be shortlisted for interview. 
  4. The committee shortlists the candiates for written test and/or interviews based on the departmental criteria.
  5. The Units offering admission will be mentioned in the application form. 
  6. The Centre has the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission of a candidate who is found to have been admitted to a course to which he/she is not entitled, being unqualified or ineligible in accordance with the rules and regulations in force.
