AIIMS Rishikesh is one of the best SIX Apex healthcare institutes in India being established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). With the aim of correcting regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attaining self sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training, the PMSSY planned to set up 6 new AIIMS institutions in under served areas of the country. All India Institute of Medical Sciences,New Delhi which imparts both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches and related fields.

Eligibility criteria for admission to Ph.D. Course:  

A Candidate seeking admission to course of study leading to award of a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy must possess at least one of following qualifications of a recognized University/Institute:   

1. Medical Science Candidates : 

(a) Medical Sciences  MBBS /BDS degree or equivalent with minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile in Professional examinations AND MD/MS/MDS/MCh in Subject concerned or Diplomat of National Board of Examinations with minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile.  

(b) Bachelor degree in Alternative Medicine (AYUSH) with minimum of 55% aggregate marks in Professional examinations.   

(c) Nursing Qualification: Candidates holding MSc degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile in Nursing specialty will also be eligible for PhD admission in College of Nursing.  

2. Non Medical Candidates :

Non-Medical For non-medical Candidate eligibility shall be Master degree (02-year course) awarded by Indian University or equivalent in subject as per requirement of project. Candidates holding MSc (Other than MSc Nursing), M Biotech/ M Tech degree / M Com / MBA or equivalent will be eligible for non-medical qualification category. Candidates possessing Masters Degree through distant learning course shall not be eligible. Candidates having eligibility under non-medical category should have at least 55% marks or equivalent in last eligibility examination qualified. Non-medical candidates should have preferably qualified in any one of following national entrance tests in last 2 years: 

1. Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF. 
2. ICMR – JRF. 
3. ICMR- SRF. 
4. DBT – JRF. 
5. DBT - SRF. 
6. NBHM screening test. 
7. Graduate aptitude test (GATE). 
8. INSPIRE fellowship. 
9. UGC – JRF. 
10. UGC - SRF. 
11. CSIR – JRF. 
12. CSIR – SRF. 
13. DST – JRF. 
14. DST – SRF  

Candidate who have qualified SRF/JRF or internal candidates would not require to appear in Theory Exam. SRF/JRF/Internal candidates with fund for Project will be given preference. 

Duration of Course :  

Minimum period of registration in respect of all candidates who are registered for PhD shall be three years and maximum period of registration shall not exceed five years. 

Age Relaxation : 

A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% or an equivalent relaxation of percentile / grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and female Candidates. 

In Service Candidates : 

In-service- Candidates Applicants from AIIMS Rishikesh – whose tenure is of 3 years or more - Faculty/ Scientific staff/ Administrative officer/ officials, SR, JR, Tutors and Demonstrators may apply as Internal Candidates. They have to be successful in Course Curriculum.

For external Candidates in permanent employment: 

Candidates who are permanent employees of external Institutions (Central Govt/ Semi Govt/ Autonomous organization) should submit application through proper channel. Also such Candidates will have to provide a certificate at time of submission of synopsis from employer stating that in event of selection to PhD course Candidate will be granted for a minimum period of 02-year study leave with full pay and permission to work at AIIMS Rishikesh to pursue full time PhD Course. 

Examination center :

All External Candidates will have to report to Lecture Theatre-2, 2nd Floor, Medical College Building, AIIMS Rishikesh on 12 December 2018 by 09:00 AM with Self Attested documents and payment slip for document verification and Entrance Examination.

Entrance Examination would be conducted for eligible candidates on 12 December 2018 at AIIMS Rishikesh. Interaction with Interview Board is scheduled on 13 and 14 December 2018 for qualifying candidates.

How to fill Application Form of AIIMS PhD Program :

Candidates have strictly instructed before  filling application form read instructions and guidelines given below.

1. Download and read the Instructions  from the prospectus. 

2. According to your category SC/ST/UR/OBC deposit the exam fee in the bank account (do not deposit cash, only NEFT/RTGS/Net banking methods are allowed), scan the deposit slip or take a screen shot of online deposit. 

3. All the attachments/ screenshots (ID  Proof, passport photo, left hand thumb, signature etc.) should not exceed 100 kilobyte (kb) in size. For multi page  attachment (Qualification Details ,  Experience/Employment Details) use pdf upto 300 KiloBytes (kb). 

4. Now Click on Login menu (upper left), then on next screen click on Register.

5. Now fill the form, enter a valid email id etc. then click on Register.

 6. Click on Confirm 

7. Again go to Login

8. Registration succeeded. An email has been sent to your email address, please click the link in the email/spam to activate your account 

9. Now goto Registration Form (upper left) tab and click on New Registration following screen will appear.  

10. Now Fill all the tabs namely Candidate Profile, Contact Details, Medical Registration Details, Attachments, Valid Photo Identity, Payment Details also fill Qualification Details in the bottom tab and Experience/Employment Details. 

11. Fill the validation code and Click on Add, now you are done. 

12. You can reset your login password by clicking on Forgot Password on login  screen, also you can change your password  from Change Password  tab and to view your  filled form and or edit your information / attachment etc. Click on  Registration Form View Registration, Form or  Edit Registration Form. 


Your online application is successfully completed.

Important Guidelines :

1. Before applying candidates must contact Department / Guide in which he /she wish to pursue Ph.D course and get consent from Guide/ Department AIIMS Rishikesh. 
2. Transfer of PhD Candidates (Females) is welcome from other University as per UGC guidelines   
3. Full credit transfer of time spent in previous enrolment in a Ph.D program will be permitted. 
4. Previous approved research experience can be counted toward total duration. 
5. Female Candidates are encouraged. Any previous break in research experience will be condoned. 
6. Candidates of foreign nationality are welcome to apply. Fees and other  charges once paid shall entertained in this connection. not be  refunded in any case  and no correspondence 
7. Fee structure is subject to revision by Director AIIMS Rishikesh
